Bio

Davis Cone was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1950.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia in 1972 and attended the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia from 1972 to 1973. 

Cone’s first solo exhibition was at O.K. Harris Works of Art in New York in 1979. He has since had several solo exhibitions including, "Recent Works," Forum Gallery, New York, NY; and "Theatre Paintings: 1977 - 1983," at the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, GA and the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga, TN.

His work has also been included in several landmark group exhibitions including the traveling exhibition, "Photorealism: 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Painting," at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in Birmingham, UK and the Kumu Art Museum of Estonia Tallinn in Estonia and the Osthaus Museum Hagen in Germany, among others. Additionally, he is included in "Photorealism: The Sydney & Walda Bestoff Collection, The New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA; and "Still Life: 1970s Photorealism," Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT.

His work may be found in many public and private collections across the country including, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, GA; New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA; and the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT.
